🦋 Personality
Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your characters thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.
- Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?
- What mythological creature would your character most like to be? Which do they identify with? Which would they dread being? Feel free to use our Bestiary for reference.
- If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?
- What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?
- If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.
- If you'd like pixies to change one event in your character's life, what would it be and why?
- What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?
- Your character gets to return home, but when they do they learn that they've been gone for hundreds of years. How do they react?
Kate Cordello does not believe in magic. Oh, certainly when she was a child she pretended to have magic when playing make-believe. She’s dressed up like a fairy for Halloween. Who hasn’t pretended that a fancy stick was a magic wand, a sword or a lightsaber? It wasn’t real though. She couldn’t touch it or see it. Most importantly she couldn’t feel it. She grew up and put away childish notions like magic and wishes.
She was raised Roman Catholic. For a time, she was a believer. She felt very special in her white dress on her confirmation. Kate had faith that there was a God above who always had you in His sights and sent guardian angels to watch out for people. But as she grew older, her faith started to dwindle further and further away from her. Too many bad things happened to good people, people who prayed hard but for them a miracle never arrived. There were also the teachings of the Catholic Church. She couldn’t reconcile them with her own beliefs. She drifted further and further away. So maybe there is a God above but she doesn’t feel it and she can’t see it. It's the same way with magic. She can't feel or see it so it probably doesn't exist.
Magic is for children. It makes for great storytelling and that is it.
If Kate could be any mythological creature she would most like to be a unicorn. Despite not believing in magic, they are supposedly magical and very pretty. Plus, they are rare which makes them even more exotic. She would like to be special. They aren’t real, she knows.
The mythological creature that she most identifies with is a Hu Hsien. There are a couple of advantages to being one. She could either be a cute fox spirit or an even more beautiful version of herself. A version of herself who is even more of a helper. She had thought about going into civil service when she was younger but that had not been in the cards for her. Her family would not have allowed her to take such a position of such low importance or status.
Kate would hate being a monster like the Baba Yaga. She would absolutely despise being a hideous ogre of a creature. It’s not the thought of eating children that really grosses her out. She supposes that she could get used to eating anything to survive. However, it’s the ugliness that really sticks it for her. Kate is a prideful, vain being. She takes pride and care in how she looks from the top of her head to the soles of her feet.
If Kate could ask for one wish to be granted, without any consequence, it would be to ask for the ability to teleport to wherever she wants regardless of how far away the destination was. If this being can grant whatever wish someone makes, giving a person an additional power should be nothing. And what is a magic wish if not cheating or gaming the system?
She is a busy woman with lots of things to get done in a single day. Do you know how much time the ability to teleport would save her? It would save her tons of time! She could pop in and out. Deliveries would be a breeze and she wouldn’t have to worry about something getting damaged on the way. She could simply load a wedding cake, for example, onto the cart, take hold of the cart and then ZIP ZAP! She’s at the venue in a heartbeat.
She could travel the world over and not leave a carbon footprint by taking a plane. The application of such a power set are near infinite. She would only be limited by her imagination.
Of course, there is the possibility that she could push herself too far. She is a stubborn creature. She would never ask for help in learning how to use this new ability. It is possible that she could get stuck and die a horrible death. But with that stubbornness comes self-reliance and the knowledge that she could do it. She would start off small and gradually progress to further and further teleports.
As wishes go, she feels it is a very smart one.
If the Pixies could change one event in Kate Cordello's life it would be the day she met Nic Russo.
It would not be a hard event to change. Any number of things could have happened to prevent her from going to her best friend’s New Years Eve party. She could have gotten a last minute special order at her bakery or a bad set of cramps would have kept her away. None of those things happened so she went.
The first met at the countdown to the new year. They shared champagne together and a kiss. She thought he was cute when he asked her out so she said yes. One date led to another and then another. A year down the line and he moved in with her which was a very big step for Kate, as she doesn’t like people messing with her things or leaving messes. But Nic had a way about him, he was able to get her to relax a bit and slow things down.
Six months after Nic moved in and Kate thought she had found the one. This was it, this was love. She could see herself getting married to this man.
After a year of living together, the shit hit the fan. She had been at a confectioner’s conference in Vegas. She didn’t think anything was wrong when he texted that he wouldn’t be able to pick her up from the airport due to his car being in the shop. That was fine, that was what Uber existed for. She didn’t think anything was immediately wrong when she returned home and Nic wasn’t there.
But she went to put her suitcase away and his side of the closet was baren. His clothing in the chest and dresser were gone. Any trace of his personality and mementos was also gone. His phone number was no longer in service. Friends and her family, for she never actually met his, didn’t know where he was or hadn’t seen him.
After being in a relationship with this man for over two years, he ended up ghosting her completely.
She would ask them to change this date because how do you trust or love again after something like that?
Pride. The most outstanding personality trait of Kate Cordello is pride, followed by vanity which is then followed by stubbornness. Three traits that fall underneath pride’s vast umbrella.
Headstrong. To say that she is not stubborn would be to say a goddamn lie. There are toddlers, who at their bedtime, are less obstinate when push comes to shove. Why is she this way? She was raised to be self-reliant and that to ask for help in all but the most dire of circumstances was to be a failure. This was true especially after being instructed on how to perform a task for the first time. She was raised that she better figure it out… or else. This has its benefits. She knows what she wants. She can stand up for herself. Plus, she was also a spoiled little princess growing up. She was not told no often which led to her getting her way.
Vanity. She’s so vain, you probably think this paragraph is about her and you’d be correct. As a child, she was dressed up a lot and heard things like how cute or pretty she was. It went to her head. Kate likes the way that she looks and knows that others feel the same. (Well, she assumes it but you know what they say about those who make assumptions.) She takes pride in her appearance. She’s not going to be caught in raggedy sweats and a messy ponytail.
Pride. She knows she's good at what she does and takes pride in it. She does not appreciate and cannot stand being discredited or dismissed due to believing that she’s so good. It started out in receiving compliments on completing a task like baking cupcakes or winning an award. This too also went to her head. On the plus side, she is very confident.
So Kate finally gets to return home like she has always wanted. She can finally free herself away from this fickle realm. It is the only thing that she has ever really and truly wanted. It's supposed to be good but it's not.
This is not her time, far from it. In a last-parting, cruel gift, Kate has been returned to her universe but it's not her world. It's several hundred years in the future. Everything she's ever known is different. To answer the original question, Kate reacts poorly.
She goes through all seven stages of grief just as she had when she first arrived at the Fae courts. At first, she is in denial about it all. This is the trick of the courts. She refuses to believe it but she can feel things here. She can see them too. Her timeline didn’t have flying cars. Space travel was highly limited. The advances in technology is not something she can ignore.
From denial comes pain and guilt. The Lawspeaker had said that they could not tell how much time had passed in the human realms and that everyone they knew was dead. She’s here but her family is not. Why her? Why is she being forced to endure such hardships of being transported alone between time and space? It’s not fair.
After the pain comes anger. It really isn’t fair and it pisses her off. She rails against the social workers who are trying to help her. She screams, rants, and raves. Then there is the bargaining. She prays to any God that will listen. She researches the supernatural. She finds faerie circles and begs to be transported back because if she’s taken back, then maybe they can fix their mistake and send her to the right time.
Depression sets in after the rage expires. It’s worse than the yelling and raving, her social workers think. Months and months are spent sitting by herself, just staring off into the distance.
An upward turn happens when one of her social workers brings her a history of the Cordello family. Well, what they could find anyway. It seems that a lot of digital archives were lost in the late twenty-first century. It’s not that they believe she’s from the past but they are trying to give her something to hold onto.
She discovers that she’s a footnote. A long, lost heiress that the family had never been able to find though they never stopped looking. It is something to know that her family did not give up looking for her. She’s able to work through her emotions and is finally able to come to be at peace.
Acceptance is a hard road for her to reach. But she gets there after many months and a few years. This new time might not be so bad. There are new wonders to behold. She thinks she might like to see the stars.

HISTORY
Date: 2025-03-26 10:33 pm (UTC)It was no mere object that had collided with our Moon but a satellite sent by an ancient empire meant to change the intelligent population of the world. It was an experiment. An unknown type of radiation emanated from the new moon, Theia. The first few generations after the collision were unchanged but with each passing generation and more time, humanity evolved. The alien race had not been expecting the humans to evolve powers and unique abilities. For them, it was new.
Humanity, with their newly found abilities, had to grow up at a much faster rate than some other Earths and in many ways Kate’s Earth isn’t that different from anyone else’s. Space travel is limited though there have been man-led missions to Mars. Most technology sits on a phone and communication happens at lightspeed. There are stars and the unknown. There are Queens and there are peasants. There are still the haves and the have-nots.
Kate’s family is amongst the haves. She’s a rich bitch with a work ethic.
She is the youngest (and a surprise) of three children in a family who, while not being members of the one-percentage club, come awfully close. They have their fingers in many, many pies. It’s cliché but both of her parents worked, her mother a doctor and her father who ran several charitable organizations. She could have been given into the care of a nanny of three but instead it was her grandparents who mostly raised her. They had wanted a girl to spoil.
Her grandmother raised her to not have idle hands. She was taught how to bake, sew, and a host of other traditional activities. But spare time is idle time, and Kate had extracurriculars like ballet and soccer (though never good at the latter so she didn't stick to it). It’s how she became a hard worker but something of a workaholic later in life. She wasn’t given much time to just relax so as an adult she has to plan relaxation time.
Her powers emerged shortly after her fourteenth birthday when her older brother, Anthony, threw a water balloon directly at her face. Not wanting to get hit, Kate threw her hands up. However, instead of getting wet the balloon stopped mid-throw and went flinging back to Anthony. From there, she was enrolled in after school training. Training continued well into college.
She thought she might go into civil service. She thought she could be helpful but her family did not allow that of her. Being a civil servant was too lowly. They wanted more for her. She rebelled slightly and went into culinary school. (Rebelled as much as she is capable of, however.) Her parents went along with it thinking it would bolster her business acumen and then go into the family business. (Once again, she is the baby of the family and spoiled in a way that her brothers were not.)
Cullinary school proved to be a humbling experience. All of a sudden she wasn't the best. All of a sudden she had to work really hard to see results. It also broadened her worldview a bit. Most of the students didn't come from wealthy families. Her status didn't earn her many new friends. However, she persevered. She graduated.
She loves to bake. She was a business major. If she couldn’t help people out in one way she would help people to satisfy their sweet tooth. She opened a little bakery in Brooklyn called the Flour Garden.
At first people thought it was a vanity project due to her wealth and being able to cut through so much red tape in order to get permits and licensing. But Kate worked really hard to prove them wrong. She took on all orders, big and small. It still bothers her, three years later, when it's referred to as a vanity project. She doesn't like that. It stings.
Kate truly enjoys running her bakery for both prideful and vain reasons. She likes it when people like what she has produced and looks of delight that show on people's faces. She likes it when people admire her effort and time. Nothing pleases her more than a well-earned compliment.
