Character Name: Kate Cordello
Character Age: 29
Character Species: Human (mostly!)
Current Health: Good.
Outfit: A green velvet tailored wide-legged pant suit with a white blouse worn underneath and black kitten heels.
Character Canon: Original
World Information.
Link to History: Kate comes from an almost stereotypical family on her home world. She was the youngest of three children and as a result of both parents working, she was largely raised by her grandparents. To keep her out of trouble, they kept her busy with learning and extracurriculars. Like most people on her world, her abilities emerged after puberty when she was fourteen.
After receiving her abilities it was onto testing that included psychologist and physical exams. It was important that she be able to control her abilities and use them well. From there, she was enrolled in after school training. Training continued well into college.
After graduating, Kate took an entry level position as an Adjudicator with the North East Division. At her rank of level one, she was responsible for administering tests to secondary-school aged children. She was also responsible for counseling them based on the results of their test. Kate proved to be very good at her job. She could find ideas and placements that were not quite normal but kept the child happy and have a positive outlook on the system. Three years later, she was promoted to level two and moved on to providing the placement tests for those that had just turned twenty.
For her part, Kate liked her job. Her ability to keep herself and students safe by forming force fields was invaluable. She knew she was good at it. Her superiors knew she was good at it. It came with praise and a sense of doing something good and beneficial.
At twenty-six, she discovered the true nature of the placement system. It changed her entire worldview. She had discovered someone with a unique ability called a Special. They were not given a choice on what they could be. They were too useful. If Specials weren't given control over their own fate, did anyone else really have it?
To keep her quiet, she was given a promotion.
Kate was told to report any other Specials she finds and she did. She did her job to the letter with just as much detail as before. However, it wasn't the same. What she was doing was tantamount to imprisonment. The Special didn't get a choice. It felt wrong but she still kept doing her job like a coward.
A couple of years after that she wound up in Hell, literally.
Canon Point: Before arriving in Penance, her canon point is after her promotion.
Canon Iteration: Original canon with CRAU from
penancerp
Canon Iteration Explanation: Penance has changed Kate and not for the better. There has always been two wolves inside her. One wanting just to live and let live while the other wanted order and everything in its place. Now? The second wolf is winning, her name is Katherine Fitz.
There are two personalities inside of Kate now. There's regular Kate who wants to be liked and loved and then there is Katherine. Free will is a joke. What are people doing with it? They can't be happy. What people need is order but they just don't know. There should be a place for everyone and everyone in their place.
Katherine Fitz came out due to a spell in Penance that put everyone caught within it under its spell. It made them all believe they were demons. Katherine was a devoted housewife and mother and so much more than that. She was straight up evil who would do anything to make sure that her family succeeded. She knows what a baby tastes like, babies taste the best. As a result of her behavior as the demon, her nails changed. Kate has demon claws now.
Everyday she struggles with the two personalities. All of that horrible and awful behavior had to come from somewhere. It couldn't all have been the spell. She feels guilt and terrible shame over her actions. However, she can't stop Katherine from coming out during moments of duress.

★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★
Skills:
● Baking
● Cooking
● Sewing/Tailoring/Following a Pattern
● Speaks Multiple Languages (English, Italian, French and German)
● Yoga
● Logistics
Canon Abilities:
●Healing Factor -- It is a common ability on her world. She can regenerate damage done to her body to heal herself. How fast she heals depends upon the severity of the wound. As the regeneration is on a constant basis, she experiences a few other side effects such as being immune to most toxins, poisons, diseases and illness. She needs less sleep than most people. Her stamina and longevity have also been increased.
● Force Field -- Kate is capable generating force fields around herself that have a slight translucent blue-green cast to them. She can also manipulate them as well.
Role: Myth
Role Qualities/Attributes: She looks like a normal, human being with a very chic black manicure. But it's not a chic manicure, it's a set of very sharp demon claws. When she's manifesting her Myth qualities (like lying, trying to control people, etc.), ner nails will grow longer. Her normal emerald green eyes becoming darker. Her expression also becomes colder.
Role Reasoning: Role Reasoning: I am picking this role for this character because while some may want a redemption path, I want Kate to become worse. She's already on this path with her first demonic transformation as a result of her time in Hell.
Evil can present itself in many ways. Yeah, sure. A lot of Myths don't want any kind of control but Katherine does. It's order over chaos. It's control over freedom. It's submission over freewill. She wants to put people in their place and keep them there.
Ideally I see the progression to absolutely corrupted will be slow-burn. She's still struggling. It's not someone who she wants to be what if she's fated to become Katherine Fitz no matter what she does?

Please choose one of the follow options for your personality section. Please clarify which option you have picked and, if option 2, which questions you are answering:
Option 2.
What is your character's safe space? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?
Kate's safe space is cooking and baking. However, it is the latter in which she finds the most solace in. Having been taught by her grandmother who believed that hands shouldn't be idle, Kate has been baking since she was a child.
What can she bake? Anything and everything. If there is a recipe for it, she can bake it. Her favorite thing to make, however, are sweets like cookies and brownies. Her most favorite thing are cupcakes. They just make people happy. It's a vanity thing. She loves to watch the looks on people's faces the first time they sample something that she has baked.
She can get into a zone baking. She is both completely focused and relaxed. Focus because baking is a science and she has to pay attention to the recipe. Relaxed because she has done the same thing a million times (especially if she's frosting a cupcake. Something about a piping back really helps her mind go zen).
What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?
The most traumatic experience that Kate has ever had to endure was the aftermath of getting trapped inside a spell. Anyone caught in the spell was transported to a place called Hellburbia where everyone thought they were demons. People were thrown into specific roles, house spouse, husband, and child. There was control. Everyone was also happy, so very happy.
It was a traumatic experience for Kate because she had been forced to act cruel and vicious. And it wasn't just to those outside of the spell, it was to those trapped in it as well. A stinging barb was never too far from her lips if she thought someone was beneath her. She had supported her husband's machinations (where he created torture machines for the sinners in Penance) without question.
One might think that when a spell ended, that would be it but that hadn't been the case for Kate. Once all was said and done, she was left with two personalities and two sets of memories as a result of the spell. There is Kate who wants to live and let live and then there's Katherine Fitz who has no problem with a little murder.
If your character could change one thing about their past, what would it be and why? Or why not?
If Kate could change one thing about her past it would be discovering her first Special, Adam.
She had been twenty-six when she had discovered him during testing. He had a power that she had never before scene or heard it. It was unique. Kate had been excited to discover such an ability. She had wasted no time in writing up a report to send to her supervisor.
After the report was sent, that was it. Kate never hard from Adam again and it made her stubbornness kick in. Despite contacting ever one of Adam's family and friends, she heard back the same story from everyone. He had already been placed with a job. She didn't have to worry. She received the same message from her supervisor as well.
It was her case. She was unable to let it go and her supervisor recognized it. They didn't want to lose Kate who was very good at her job. There was also something in her personality profile that suggested she could keep a secret and a small part of her liked knowing things.
She was promoted to a Level Three Adjudicator and let in on the big secret. Certain people had skills that needed to be put to use for the greater good. It didn't matter what that person actually wanted.
She went on with it like a coward. Her world was fractured. Before she had believed in the placement system. It worked. Her world was good. But after? Maybe it wasn't so good. Maybe her world wasn't what she thought.
What famous folklore, legend, or myth would you associate your character with? Are they literally inspired by Snow White? Do they have similar struggles or energy as Red Riding Hood?
The famous folklore story that would be associated with Kate is that of Bluebeard's Wife.
While most interpret the moral of the story of Bluebeard to be a cautionary tale for women. Women should obey their husbands and not give in to their curiosity so that they will be safe. It is an old moral. It is certainly open to interpretation.
Another interpretation and how it related to Kate lie within the set of keys that Bluebeard gives to his wife. All of the doors she can open except for one. It is the key of knowledge and represents a fundamental change to the character. Bluebeard's wife could have chosen not to open the door to the forbidden room and live in ignorance and bliss. Kate could have chosen not to pursue what happened to Adam and could have lived her life in continuing bliss and ignorance.
Both women chose to open the door and were forever changed by it. How do you go back to who you were a person before?
What does your character feel like they struggle with still? Where could they improve? This could be physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise.
There are a few areas in which Kate struggles with, the primary area being trust.
It takes a while to earn a little of her trust and it takes even a longer amount of time to earn her trust completely (if at all). Once upon a time, she had a boyfriend of over two years. His name was Niccolo but preferred to be called Nic. Of the relationship, Kate thought it was great. Nic was the one. She could see herself and him having a long life together.
It wasn't meant to be.
Kate came home from a conference to find all of her boyfriend's stuff gone. His phone number was disconnected. She further found out that he had left his flat and left the country. His family members wouldn't even taken her calls. Nic had straight up ghosted her. She never found out why, that was the worst part.
She went from content in a relationship to being deeply hurt and abandoned all in one go. What had she done? What could she have done better? Was it just all on her? There were so many questions that she never had the answer for.
And now she can trust people but it only goes so far. She hasn't been in a serious relationship since and frankly prefers it that way. She prefers to hold people at arm's length. She prefers to leave a person first, that way she won't be hurt again.

Personality
Date: 2023-01-14 11:43 pm (UTC)She's very fixated on doing everything herself which has its benefits such as not giving up on what she wants, she stands up for herself and beliefs, and can be relentless. However, it is her biggest flaw. She can be dismissive and has a habit of dismissing other ideas even if they might work better. If she has to ask for help that means she failed and she will go to great lengths, stupid lengths, to keep from asking for help.
She's so nice. She's not good and she's not bad, Kate's just nice. She can be mildly likable as she wants to be liked. To achieve her goal of being liked and well-thought of. She has manners and knows how to use them. (She may forget them when she's become agitated to the point of no return but she still has them!)She was raised in a household that believed in manners and keeping hands busy. One should hold open the door for the person following them in. One should be polite and offer to help. It does not harm anyone in making an effort not to be rude. Kate is polite and minds her manners, not because it’s expected, but because that’s who she is and how she was brought up.
Kate is prideful. She is confident in her own abilities. She does not appreciate and cannot stand being discredited, dismissed or being rude to. Kate has a long memory for such grievances. She realizes that not everyone can or is able to stand up for themselves. She is sometimes interfering and sometimes comes across as a bit of an ass for doing so. She also likes it when people listen to her. Kate likes it when people obey her and do as she asks. No one likes bossy boilers. She is very aware of this. It works in direct conflict with her desire to be liked and thought of in a positive manner.
Again, Kate is more stubborn than a three-year old who is refusing to try a new food despite being very hungry. She doesn't like asking for help and it will get her into trouble. Kate also doesn't like dealing with her own emotions, something which she has gotten worse about since her promotion.
In a desperate attempt to keep from thinking about what she knows about her world, Kate has thrown herself into a wide variety of hobbies. Most of them are G-Rated like baking and restoring old clothing while others are not. She likes sex and is down to try new things if it'll take her mind someplace else.
She wants to be soft and someone to be soft with her. Kate wants to feel love. She likes people. She's even more than liked someone but actual love? She's been fooled in the past but the desire is still there.
Kate wants to be liked and/or at least thought of in a positive like. Please note that being thought of in a positive like does not necessarily mean by good people (see her job). She wants to be the best at everything but instead of striving for excellence she tries for perfection.
--
Landing in literal Hell has done a number on Kate. There are two personalities inside, two sets of memories, and two sets of goals. The first is just Kate who would rather live and let live who is just trying to do her best in some pretty shitty situations.
And then there's Katherine Fitz who is anything but live and let live. Katherine Fitz is a vile, vicious, villainous woman who will do anything to make sure that herself and those she considers hers succeed and end up on the top of things.
