Age: 28

Canon point: A year after being promoted.
History: World History -- Nearly three millennia ago, on an Earth much like the one you are familiar with, a deep space object collided with the Moon. The collision was catastrophic. Humanity was pushed to a near breaking point as a result of changing time, tides, and light. When the dust had settled, the Earth was left with two moons in orbit.
Radiation from the second moon fell down onto Earth. Time passed and life was transformed. The changes were slow at first but as days turned into decades and then into centuries, the human race is not as it was. A millennia of basking in the glow of the second moon had caused humanity's evolutionary process to speed up, gifting them with powers and unique abilities.
Humanity was forced to grow up at much quicker rate than some other Earths.
TL:DR -- A long long time ago, a fuck-off old space empire sent a device to Earth to transform the population for kicks and giggles. Everyone now has powers. Yay.
On this Earth with two moons, powers are called abilities. They start getting them at around puberty. Everyone gets them. Once they start manifesting, citizens are enrolled in training classes. During the school year, there are after school programs. In the summer, there are camps. During secondary schooling, children are giving a set of tests. It is the first series of testing and they are given by Adjudicators. This gives them a general idea of where they might be both content and useful sort of like a career councilor but for people with powers.
There is more training through either college or vocational school. Once people hit the age of twenty, they are given their final set of tests. General aptitudes are tested along with behavioral and mental capabilities. Powers are categorized and catalogued. Citizens are then given a few suggestions based on these tests and what jobs need feeling. Most people are genuinely content at where they end up.
Character History -- Kate is the youngest of three children and also a surprise. Both of her parents worked and given the large age gap between her two older brothers, her grandparents were her primary caregiver. They kept her busy as a way to keep her out of trouble.
Her powers emerged shortly after her fourteenth birthday when her older brother, Anthony, threw a water balloon directly at her face. Not wanting to get hit, Kate threw her hands up. However, instead of getting wet the balloon bounced off of a force field that she had projected with her hands. From there, she was enrolled in after school training. Training continued well into college.
After graduating, Kate took an entry level position as an Adjudicator with the North East Division. At her rank of level one, she was responsible for administering tests to secondary-school aged children. She was also responsible for counseling them based on the results of their test. Kate proved to be very good at her job. She could find ideas and placements that were not quite normal but kept the child happy and have a positive outlook on the system. Three years later, she was promoted to level two and moved on to providing the placement tests for those that had just turned twenty.
For her part, Kate liked her job. Her ability to keep herself and students safe by forming force fields was invaluable. She knew she was good at it. Her superiors knew she was good at it. It came with praise and a sense of doing something good and beneficial.
Her world started to fracture when she was twenty-six. She was testing an individual by the name of Adam who could he discover information about a person by touching an object that belonged to them or they had recently touched. Kate had never before seen this ability and it was uncanny just how much Adam could glean just by touch. She was excited to discover such an ability and wasted no time in writing up a report to send to her supervisors.
After submitted the report, Kate never heard from Adam again. He didn't show up to their sessions. He didn't return calls or messages. Kate had even visited his dorm only to find it unoccupied and empty as though he had moved away very quickly. Her supervisor instructed her to let it go, that Adam was fine but it didn't feel fine to Kate. Her stubbornness kicked in.
She began contacted Adam's family and friends. She went to his college admissions office. Nothing. Every time she was told that Adam was fine and had been placed into a job already. She didn't need worry. Kate received the same story from everyone.
Realizing that she wouldn't let this go and rather not wanting to lose Kate's skills, Kate was promoted to level three. She was let in on the big secret. Adam was alive. He was considered a Special, someone with a new ability that could be useful to the government. Where he was and what they had him doing, was not told to Kate. What she was told was that he wasn't the first and he wouldn't be the last. Adam didn't have a choice in the matter. He was going to be immensely useful in negotiations and security or wherever else they put him.
Kate was told to report any other Specials she finds and she did. She did her job to the letter with just as much detail as before. However, it wasn't the same. What she was doing was tantamount to imprisonment. The Special didn't get a choice. It felt wrong but she still kept doing her job. She couldn't quit, she didn't want to be pressed into a roll that she didn't want.
So she continued, like a coward.
Personality: The five words that best describe Kate are self-sufficient, prideful, nice, crafty and stubborn.
Kate is more stubborn than a three-year old who is refusing to try a new food despite being very hungry. She doesn't like asking for help and it will get her into trouble. Kate also doesn't like dealing with her own emotions, something which she has gotten worse about since her promotion.
She's very fixated on doing everything herself which has its benefits such as not giving up on what she wants, she stands up for herself and beliefs, and can be relentless. However, it is her biggest flaw. She can be dismissive and has a habit of dismissing other ideas even if they might work better. If she has to ask for help that means she failed and she will go to great lengths, stupid lengths, to keep from asking for help.
To say that Kate is stubborn is a goddamn lie. There are toddlers who are less obstinate at their bedtime. Kate is a very stubborn. This is due to her belief that she has to be self-reliant and the way she was brought up. Both of her parents worked, so it was her grandmother who raised her. Her grandmother gave her tasks and hobbies to keep her busy and out of trouble.
She's so nice. She's not good and she's not bad, Kate's just nice. She can be mildly likable as she wants to be liked. To achieve her goal of being liked and well-thought of. She has manners and knows how to use them. (She may forget them when she's become agitated to the point of no return but she still has them!) She was raised in a household that believed in manners and keeping hands busy. One should hold open the door for the person following them in. One should be polite and offer to help. It does not harm anyone in making an effort not to be rude. Kate is polite and minds her manners, not because it’s expected, but because that’s who she is and how she was brought up.
Kate is prideful. She is confident in her own abilities. She does not appreciate and cannot stand being discredited, dismissed or being rude to. Kate has a long memory for such grievances. She realizes that not everyone can or is able to stand up for themselves. She is sometimes interfering and sometimes comes across as a bit of an ass for doing so. She also likes it when people listen to her. Kate likes it when people obey her and do as she asks. No one likes bossy boilers. She is very aware of this. It works in direct conflict with her desire to be liked and thought of in a positive manner.
In a desperate attempt to keep from thinking about what she knows about her world, Kate has thrown herself into a wide variety of hobbies. Most of them are G-Rated like baking and restoring old clothing while others are not. She likes sex and is down to try new things if it'll take her mind someplace else.
She wants to be soft and someone to be soft with her. Kate wants to feel love. She likes people. She's even more than liked someone but actual love? She's been fooled in the past but the desire is still there.
Kate wants to be liked and/or at least thought of in a positive like. Please note that being thought of in a positive like does not necessarily mean by good people (see her job). She wants to be the best at everything but instead of striving for excellence she tries for perfection.
Suitability: Kate is suitable because there is safety in numbers and she's realistic.
She has just arrived on this Earth with no way to support herself, no friends or family, and possesses special abilities. Where is she going to go? ADI is offering her a job and support. While she knows that this could all be a trap or a trick of some kind, Kate doesn't see herself in fairing any better on her own.
So she's going to stay and maybe find out what's really going on.
Powers/Abilities: ● Healing Factor -- It is a common ability on her world. She can regenerate damage done to her body to heal herself. How fast she heals depends upon the severity of the wound. As the regeneration is on a constant basis, she experiences a few other side effects such as being immune to most toxins, poisons, diseases and illness. She needs less sleep than most people. Her stamina and longevity have also been increased.
● Force Field -- Kate is capable generating force fields around herself that have a slight translucent blue-green cast to them. She can also manipulate them as well.
● She's a baker, a tailor, but not a candlestick maker. From things taught in her youth, Kate is a very good cook but an even better baker. She knows how to sew and alter clothing to fit her better (in keeping in the vein of vanity). From college, she knows logistics and how to manage people.
Entity Affinity: Kate's Entity Affinity is going to be The Eye.
Kate discovered that the government is keeping people with truly unique and amazing capabilities for their own use. The placement system in her world is a little bit broken. And since finding this out, she was given a promotion so that she too could find special people. She knows that she should do something about it. She should say something but she doesn't.
She knows too much. What would happen to her if she talks? Who would she tell? Would they even believe her? She found this one nugget of information that is slowly destroying her. She cannot see her world and the placement system as she did before. It's broken.
If The Eye likes to nosh on people who have discovered something that is dangerous and may ruin them, then The Eye is going to find Kate Cordello tasty.
